| NFL Betting – Watch the Numbers |
|
The sports betting world loves betting on NFL football. In fact, the NFL is one of the most popular leagues for people to bet on in the entire world. Superbowl betting brings out the bettor in everyone and the availability of online betting helps even the casual fan to place a bet. As you place your bet on NFL football, you need to keep an eye on the numbers to make sure you are placing a winning bet. In this case, the numbers are referring to the point spread. The most common margin of victory in all NFL games is three points. More games are decided by exactly three points than any other of potential margin of victory available. Whether you write for a hockey blog or follow NFL games closely, understanding the most common margin for victory is extremely important. Many odds makers will play around with that point differential to entice you to make a different kind of bet than you had planned on. It is up to you whether or not you fall for it and change your bet based on the point spread. A really good example of odds makers enticing bettors is the line on Super Bowl XLVI. The Giants are the underdogs, but there is still a lot of action on New York. The odds makers moved the line to -2 ½ for the New England Patriots. That means if the Patriots win by three points, then your bet is still good. A line of -3 would null all bets on the Pats if New England won by three points. This makes a bet on the Patriots more enticing as the odds makers attempt to shift some of the action away from the Giants. Is Las Vegas doing this on purpose? It is hard to tell. But if you wanted to bet on the Patriots in the past and the -3 line scared you away, then this is your chance to place your bet without the fear of losing out to a close game. |
