| Is Michael Vick Worth A Long Term Investment? |
|
Yesterday, NFL betting lines enthusiasts were shocked to learn, that two years removed from serving time in prison for a dog-fighting ring, Michael Vick has been rewarded by the Philadelphia Eagles. As the team’s new starting quarterback, after last year’s MVP caliber season, Vick has signed a six year $100 million contract. For football fishing enthusiasts alike we wonder, is Vick worth a long-term investment.
The transformation from the NFL’s bad boy to reborn man is complete for Michael Vick. With his new six year $100 million contract, with $40 million guaranteed, the Philadelphia Eagles believe that Vick can be the man to get them back to the Super Bowl, for the first time since 2004. But the question is, is Vick really worth the money?
Last season, Vick put together the best season of his career, as he finally showed that not only could he run the football, but his arm was pretty good too. Appearing to have finally completed his all around game, Vick was on top of the world, as he finished second in MVP voting. Still, the inability to get the job done in the playoffs has left many questioning if this bold decision was the right one for Andy Reid and the Philadelphia Eagles.
By the time the playoffs rolled around last season, Vick was showing the affects, of missing four seasons due to being in prison and a backup. Rather then continue his Captain America like climb; Vick seemed to be more like Captain America’s alter ego, the fragile Steve Rodgers.
In theory, with the improvements to both the offensive line and defense, and a healthy offseason, Michael Vick can maintain his MVP like form this coming season. At 30 years of age, signing a six-year contract is a big risk for one of America’s best-run franchises to take.
